About JJ Vavrik

For as long as he can remember, JJ (he/him) and his siblings would get together and create their own mini-musicals at any and all family gatherings. It turns out that this was just the beginning of his lifelong journey with the world of theater. From creative performances in the basement to dancing along with the movie Newsies every Saturday morning, JJ was destined to end up on stage.

An alum of Upper Darby Summer Stage, JJ found an even deeper love for theater as he learned the beauty of escaping into the mind and body of a character. He attended Temple University, where he earned a BA in Theater with concentrations in both Acting and Musical Theater. After graduating, JJ quickly began working around the Philadelphia area at theaters such as the Walnut Street Theatre, the Arden Theatre, and the Fulton Theatre.

Being on stage is, in many ways, the pinnacle of artistic expression. It requires hard work, passion, long hours, and an unquenchable drive towards perfection. While many things in life are beyond one’s control, JJ believes that with hard work and passion, you can achieve whatever you set your mind to. Theater teaches patience, cooperation, communication, and to never give up on your dreams.

When not performing, JJ is a bit of a roller coaster enthusiast. He also enjoys making - that is to say, creating - things with his hands. Artistic passion comes in many shapes and forms; JJ loves to push the boundaries and explore all ways to fulfill that creative spark. At the end of the day, theater will always be his first artistic love - a passion that will only deepen and grow with time.
